Dear Cousins:
Your Editor is becoming a bit disheartened these days. Our
membership has dropped down from almost 200 subscribers to only 121, not
counting the "freebies" we send to the Library of Congress and other
interested genealogical and historical groups and organizations. There are
fewer inquiries which seems a shame when we have so much material available for
the researchers and "rooters". Also there are very few query letters
sent in as I'm sure you've already noticed. Two-thirds of this newsletter are
repeats from past newsletters, which isn't such a bad thing, I guess, since our
later joiners may find kernels of wisdom concerning their particular lines that
we have published earlier.
We've had a good run, and have helped a lot of people. Next
year will be our 15th. I don't know if that a record for such publications but
we should be proud of that accomplishment. But where do we go from here? I'd
like you to give me some input. I know the Internet is a great lure - it's
quick and there's so much info out there. But somehow I feel what we do has its
place as well. I love the phonecalls, and the researching I can do to help
people. But if we drop below a mailing of one hundred perhaps we'd better think
about it. Let me know what you think.
