CORRECTION
On P.3 of the March issue please change the first line of
the Charlotte Kunold note on information received from a gentleman in
Ohio...his name is NOT Everett Washington, it is EVERETT RAWLINGs. I don't know
where my brain had gone. Sorry.
Now you don't have to travel to New York to research your
roots at Ellis Island. The American Family Immigration History Center's Web
Site, http://www.ellisisland.org
(validated 09/26/2004), allows you to search for stories about passengers who
entered America via Ellis Island and the Port of New York. Free registration is
required for the most basic searches, such as looking up names to find out when
a person arrived and what ship he or she traveled on. For $45 a year, you can
gain full access to the site and become a sustaining member of the Statue of
Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. You then can annotate passenger records in the
archives, create and maintain a family history scrapbook, and order a free
print or CD-ROM copy of your initial scrapbook. Be warned the massive interest
in the site may make it hard to gain access so be patient.
