Dear Cousins....
I hope your transition to the new Millennium was smooth, and
that you are all ready to tackle your "root" problems in a new and
vigorous way this year. And while you're thinking of that, those of you who
have not yet sent in your renewals, this issue will be the last you will
receive. The Index for 1999 is enclosed. If you don't find it there, please let
me know.
We are receiving a slow trickle of new subscribers. In about
a half-dozen we have been able to help them almost immediately. I'm not too
bashful to pat ourselves on our backs because, after all, that was why we began
this project. However, I am a little disturbed with the reports from some of
these new subscribers, and also some of our regulars who are not on the
"net", about the misinformation found on the Internet. Several of the
new subscribers have quickly found the answers or the sources to help them
solve their genealogical puzzles from us when hours of search on the
"web" has gleaned nothing. They are most grateful and I must thank
those of you who have helped them at my suggestion. Some of us may continue to
do research the old way without computers, and as Wilma Rawlings pointed out on
the telephone the other day, "I would much rather prowl around in the
dusty files of a county courthouse and see the exact signature, the faded old
marriage certificate, the land deed or will with my own eyes." She tells
me she coughs a lot but she doesn't mind. The thrill of discovery is worth it
all.
Have a Happy Easter,..sorry I've dallied but you should all
have your newsletters before the end of the month.
