JOHN ROLLINS/RAWLINS was the contractor on improvements at
Mt. Vernon, hired by George Washington. The large banquetroom at the north end
of Mt. Vernon was placed in his hands since he was a craftsman in decorative
plaster-work. He was from Baltimore.
Mr. Peck further explains. that JOHN and ANTHONY RAWLINGS
(RALINES) are
the sons of ANTHONY RAWLINGS (1615-1651) whose wife was
named Jane. After ANTHONY died, Jane moved to Dorchester County, Md, and
remarried. Kent Co, in Delaware includes the headwaters of rivers which feed
the Chesapeake Bay, so it was reasonably accessible to residents of Dorchester
County.
