FRANCIS RAWLINGS Jr., a tavern keeper in the Annapolis area
of Anne Arundel Co., MD died in 1782, aged 35. His four children were JOHN,
ELIZABETH, FRANCIS and JAMES. Whether or not these children had issue is not
clear. There is a record of a JOHN RAWLINGS who married Mary Craten in Anne
Arundel County in 1813. A man named JAMES RAWLINGS died in Anne Arundel County
about 1838 but his probate record is silent as to any children. There is at
least one family in Annapolis that could have descended from FRANCIS RAWLINGS
Jr. The following information was gleaned by research into the RAWLINGS
families of Anne Arundel County, and might shed some light on this mystery.
July 21, 1772 -
FRANCIS RAWLINGS Jr. md. Sarah Hall. St. Margaret's Church, Anne Arundel Co.,
MD In 1782 FRANCIS RAWLINGS Jr. died.
Dec. 7, 1782 -
David Kerr vs FRANCIS RAWLINGS Sr. On Dec. 3, 1776, David Kerr leased a
plantation on the north side of the Severn River to FRANCIS RAWLINGS Jr. Kerr
sued to recover unpaid rent, fees for firewood, etc., and payment for the
deterioration of buildings. FRANCIS Sr. and Sarah Hall RAWLINGS Baldwin were
the administrators of FRANCIS Jr's estate. Sarah Baldwin died before June 1788.
(The entire dissertation was written up during the December 1790 Court and
covered the period from 1776 to 1790. The document contained 26 pages. Sarah
Hall RAWLINGS Baldwin was shown as RAWLINGS or Baldwin depending on the time
period. Her children were not mentioned at all so it cannot be said that she
didn't have issue with Henry Baldwin). Chancery Court, Libro 20, Folio 284-310

Will of Henry Baldwin: Baldwin was on his death bed and began to utter his
wishes to Richard Gambrill and Ruth Sewell. The following is all that he was
able to say...."little grey horse to JEMMY (JAMES) RAWLINS which he
commonly rides; all wearing accept my watch to JEMMY RAWLINS". He then
died. On February 11, 1794, Gambrill and Sewell swore that they were present at
Henry Baldwin's house and to the best of their knowledge that was all that
Baldwin said before he died. Anne Arundel County Wills Libro JG1:36 Folio 393
