Cousins All:
It's the first month of summer and we are all making
vacation plans. Some of you will be heading for your ancestors' home grounds,
and I envy you. I know my own family's history for a goodly period but my
husband's (the RAWLINGS) is a different story. His line has been traced back to
1777 in Virginia/ Maryland, and there we're stuck. Perhaps we'll strike dirt
this year.
I received many answers to my request from you all for input
into the problem of "Lifetime" subscriptions to the newsletter. The
older among us think 10 years is probably enough considering their ages but
will continue to pay by the year. Those of you who are younger also consider
perhaps 10 years, or $75.00, but some opt for a flat $50, which would cover 6
years with $5 extra. I think the $50 is a pretty good bet. I think I can last
that long, and if not I have a great candidate to take over. So if it's OK with
all of you we will consider $50 a lifetime subscription for those who would
rather pay a lump sum instead of forgetting the $7.50 every year.
We purchased several books during this past three months,
among them: "History of Montgomery Co., MD
1650-1879"..."Marriage Records of the City of Fredericksburg, VA, and
of Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties, VA
1722-1850"...."Abstracts of Wills, Inventories & Administration
Accounts of Frederick Co., VA 1743-1800" … "List of the Colonial
Soldiers of Virginia" ...."Surry Co., VA, Records
1652-1684"...and "Old Somerset on the Eastern Shore of
Maryland".
Have a great summer!
