1843 - ROLLINS versus ROLLINS & c.

Orator: JAMES F. ROLLINS

HENRY ROLLINS, father of the Orator, died in 1842 intestate, leaving four children. ANN ROLLINS, MARTHA ROLLINS and ROBERT ROLLINS, the last two being infants, and your Orator. The Orator wishes the division/sale of the two slaves.

Defendants: MARTHA ROLLINS, ANN ROLLINS and ROBERT ROLLINS

MARY E. ROLLINS was granted guardianship of EDWARD T. ROLLINS, WILLIAM H. ROLLINS, and JAMES H. ROLLINS on June 30, 1854. These are the children of JOSEPH ROLLINS and Mary Bryan, his wife. (Carole has added a note that the children's parents were JAMES F. ROLLINS and wife Mary E. Bowin, alias Pratt.)

In 1855, MARTHA ROLLINS with Samuel Staples was granted guardianship of her three children: ANDESNIA ROLLINS, VIRGINIA ROLLINS and GEORGE WASHINGTON ROLLINS. JAMES F. ROLLINS married Mary E. Pratt in 1843. ANN ROLLINS, his sister, md. Fielding Clift. Together with MARTHA ROLLINS they are the children of HENRY ROLLINS.

1855 - Clift versus ROLLINS

This suit is missing, all but the decree. It was decreed that MARY ROLLINS, administratrix of JAMES F. ROLLINS, deceased, pay the plaintiff Fielding Clift $300 with interest from March 1885 for the satisfaction of the portions of the said plaintiff's wife and of MARTHA ROLLINS who bequeathed her interest to the plaintiff in the personal estate of HENRY ROLLINS, deceased, as administered by the said JOAN F. ROLLINS, deceased.

1856 - Pratt Bowin versus Bowin & c.

Orator: William L. P. Bowin

Stephen P. Bowin, father of the orator, died in 1854, intestate, seized and possessed of a tract of land in King George Co. containing 600 acres. He left Lucy P. Bowin, widow, and nine children: the orator, Ferdinand S.P. Bowin, Elizabeth P. Bowin, MARY E. ROLLINS, widow of JAMES ROLLINS: George W. P. Bowin, John K. Bowin and Alexander P. Bowin. The land is in use and possession of the widow. She expresses her willingness to partition. Defendants: Lucy P. Bowie, Ferdinanand S. P. Bowin, Robert H. P. Bowin, James O. P. Bowin, Elizabeth P. Bowin, MARY E. ROLLINS, George W.P. Bowin, infant ... John K. Bowin, infant ... and Alexander P. Bowin, infant.

It is noted that Mary E. Bowin, alias Pratt, married JAMES F. ROLLINS in 1843

in King George Co., VA. The family of Bowin (Bowen) eventually changed their names to Pratt.
