R/RFHA Newsletter, September 1996 P.31
Extracts from "The Fountain" obviously a
genealogical publication, sent to one of our subscribers, Eleanor Peters, 4460 Oak
Bay Rd., Port Ludlow, WA 98365 This information had been taken from the book
"The Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties, Maryland, by J.D.
Warfield, Baltimore, 1905, recently reprinted by Heritage Books, Inc, 1995.
Reactions to it have created additional information from descendants, as
follows:
Barbara Calvert writes of her concern of some misinformation
in this work (1905) and writes to correct same because of further research by
herself and others, including our own Beverly Allan and Bob Bockmiller. Quoting
Beverly, Barbara writes: This family began with AARON RAWLINGS b. 1667, and
Susannah Jones.
The issue was (1) DANIEL, b. AA Co., probably and Mary
Rumney; (2) MOSES, b. A.A. Co., and Ruth Clark, no issue; (3) AARON Jr., md.
1725 Susannah Beard; (4) WILLIAM b. A.A. Co., and Elizabeth Warman; (5)
JONATHAN, b. ca 1720 A.A. (Do., and Elizabeth Watkins, dtr. of Gassaway
Watkins; (6) STEPHEN, b. ca 1721 A.A. Co., and Elizabeth Tyler; (7) ANN, and
Simon Jones, no issue, but she had two daughters out of wedlock by Thomas
Tucker of the RICHARD RAWLINGS line, which is not the same family as AARON.
Barbara tells us there are many RAWLINGS families in Md, Va
and Ky, many - of which are not related. A familiar story, similar to the case,
for example of the Welch/Welsh/Walsh line.
STEPHEN RAWLINGS and some of his family moved from Maryland
to Kentucky. A son of AARON and Susannah Jones RAWLINGS was named STEPHEN, and
he would be a brother to AARON RAWLINGS Jr. who married Susannah Beard. He was
an uncle of Col. MOSES RAWLINGS, famous in the Revolutionary War. Col. MOSES
moved to Hampshire Co., VA (now West Virginia.)

Larry Hardin, P.O.Box 144, Slater, MO 65349, sent more
information on the RAWLINGS. Ironically Larry descends from AARON RAWLINGS (1667-1741)
and his wife Susannah Jones, dtr. of Dr. William Jones. He descends thru AARON
and Susannah's son STEPHEN (b. ca 1721) (see above) who was and to Elizabeth
Tyler. Both died in Berkeley Co., Va. Their son AARON (d. 1827) and wife Nancy
Ann's daughter ABIGAIL RAWLINGS (b. Apr. 6, 1798 - Breckinridge Co., KY, who
md. Joel Hardin are closer ancestors.
