Dear Cousins all:
Hope you all had a great summer, and now that the leaves are
falling and the evenings are chilly, it's time to stop sunbathing, swimming,
boating, vacationing and the like and get back to the serious job of
"root-digging".
I'm a little down in the mouth because 32 subscribers didn't
sign up again, but it's happened in the past and many come back in a year or
two. And there's always the people who discover us for the first time. Someone
put us on PRODIGY and we hear from persons now and again who eventually join
with us. And there's always word of mouth. As long as we continue to amass the
tremendous amount of information we do we will always be viable as a data
center.
Had requests for back issues many times, mostly from new signups, thus
the large printing bill we have this quarter. I'm also printing up 225 copies
of each issue so that in the future I won't have to add to our files at a much
costlier rate. (For example; We have the issues printed up for about 2.7¢ a
page when it's printed up for over 100 copies ... but it's 4.9¢ per page when
we print up less than 100 copies.)
About the ghost story on pp 43 and 44; I hope no one will be
offended by it. It's a traditional story which people believed at the time, and
still do in many cases, and even though the malefactor is a ROLLINS, and
particularly since ROBERT and Sallie left no heirs, it seems that other ROLLINS
should feel no embarrassment. We all have skeletons (you should pardon the
expression) in our ancestral closets, and after all, perhaps ROBERT 'and Sallie
were innocent.
Have a happy Hallowe'en and most bountiful Thanksgiving.
