Volume 8, No. 1 March 1995
Dear Cousins:
At the beginning of our 8th year membership renewal is going
at a goodly pace, but remember to send in your renewal before June if you
haven't already or this will be your last issue.
A small complaint: you will note that in both the December
1994 and March 1995 issues there are many submissions that are incomplete and
therefore most difficult to research. Please remember to always include birth
dates, if possible, and counties as well as states when submitting information.
A person cannot be located by name and dates alone, location is most important.
Those of you who have been subscribers since the beginning
will sometimes note a repeat of information or family history. This is often
caused by new subscribers submitting information or query letters, but we must
remember there are always new subscribers who have not read the old
newsletters. The information may be very important to one or more of them even
though it might be old news to the rest of us.
You will also note that the Index enclosed with this month's
newsletter is stapled in a very awkward place. This was the first time I had
the cony house staple and it will probably be the last. It was too big a task
to remove all the staples for 200 copies so I mailed them as is.
Now to our healthy march Financial Balance (see P.2). Since
we are not a for-profit organization, we aren't supposed to have a large and
healthy balance. I'd like your ideas as to how we might spend some of this
money. For example, what about purchasing source books for the Association to
be used by all; or we could offer 'freeby' subscriptions to
genealogical/historical organizations in counties where large concentrations of
R's were found in the past. Our subscription rates are the lowest of any
similar organization I have been able to find so perhaps we should go back to
$5.00 per year. Those to whom I have already spoken have mostly chosen the
'freeby' route. Let me know your opinions.
Spring is coming so let's hope we have another great year.
