Dear Cousins:
I thank you for all the wonderful suggestions about how we
can spend our over-abundant treasury, along with several who said "Just
let it sit there." The majority have opted toward purchasing books and
other genealogical material to add to our knowledge and research. In recent
years your Editor has purchased and then donated source materials to the R/RFHA
and they have proved useful in both individual requests we receive for
assistance as well as a general help in our studies. Also, some subscribers
have submitted their own compilations concerning their own particular lines,
for which we are grateful.
A few of these gifts have been "Kentucky Householders
1787-1811", "Kentuckians in Missouri", "Family Tree
Detective" (English), "Polly RAWLINGS Miller Ancestry &
Descendants", "Records of Old Macon County, North Carolina",
"Immigrant Ancestors" by Virgus, "To Maryland from
Overseas", "Index to Genealogies in New Hampshire Town Histories",
"Civil War Genealogical Research Sources", "Revolutionary War
Genealogical Research Sources", "Maryland Revolutionary
Records", "Known Military Dead During the War of 1812",
"List of Colonial Soldiers of Virginia", "Remember the River.
Raisin" and "Notes on Kentucky Veterans in the War of 1812" in
one volume. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in the last 3 books because
none of the R's whom we know positively participated in these battles and those
wars are not mentioned. This is also true of the "Maryland Revolutionary
Records". We will have to be more particular about books vie might
purchase in the future.
Last month the Editor did publish the book "Rollins &
Clark with Allied Families" (see P.16) after a telephone call to the
delightful lady who compiled it, LILLIE ROLLINS CRAWFORD. We also purchased
scare genealogical material from a subscriber who had discovered a trove of R
FGSs.
Of course, if anyone wished to donate books, they will be welcomed
too. Have a great summer.
