Dear Cousins All....
I'm happy to announce that there are only 10 subscribers who have not decided to stay with us this year. I hope they will remember to do so before the June issue. I realize that sometimes it's pretty slow going, this digging into our "roots" but persistence pays off, as so many of our subscribers can attest.
Just a few little comments. Do any of you have copies of the surname index for the 1790 Census? I have the page which holds the RAWLIN(G)S/ROLLIN(G)S and other spellings on it, but so many times correspondents like to know where to locate the surnames of those families who marry into the R's. It would be a great help if anyone did own this index and could make a copy for us so we won't have to buy one.
And just a reminder to those of you who send in the information for us to print. Remember, if possible, to indicate the county and state where the subject was born, married, died, or spent the most years in residence. Also the dates as close as possible. As we proceed with the research it is amazing how many ROBERT's might marry MARY's, and if we know approximate dates and locations, we can pinpoint the line a little more quickly. And while we're speaking of the information you send in, it's just marvelous! There's so much! And now I'm receiving newspaper photographs. I'm going to have to experiment so as to get clearer copies of those photos so we can put them in the newsletter. Particularly the real old ones.
By the way, if any of your ancestors corm west on the Oregon Trail, you should be reminded that the 150th anniversary of the first trek in that direction is being celebrated this year. If you are interested in obtaining information about it, write The Oregon Trail Project, 4620 Overland Road #206, Boise, Idaho 83705.
It's the beginning of our 6th year! I can hardly believe it! Let's hope it's our best year!
