Dear Cousins All....

Well, we're up to 113 members which means about 20 haven't renewed. But on the good side we have gained 8 new members through our listings in the Genealogical Helper, Elizabeth Bentley's book on Family Name Organizations, and some computer whiz' decision to nut our organization on the Prodigy computer bulletin board. I average about 1 inquiry a week, with most joining after I send them a sample newsletter and the information concerning the Association.

One of these inquiries was a very pleasant surprise. It came from Mr. Stan Cook of County Buckingham in England. It seems he is into genealogy, particularly in County Kent, and sent to us a great deal of information concerning R's of various spellings, some going back into the 16th Century. (See P.8 for an example); When I wrote him to thank him for his interest he sent some source information for those researching in England. Anyone interested, drop me a line.

One of our newest members if 16 year-old CASEY ROLING (see Query letters P.13). It's great to have someone as young as Casey digging for his "roots". Another interesting new member is Friar Wolfgang Kling of the Christ the Kin- Monastery in Alabama. Those of you who descend from JAMES RAWLINS/ROLLINS who came to America in 1632 to settle eventually in New Hampshire might drop him a line, particularly if you have information on just where in England JAMES came from.

On pp 14-16 you will find information on some Brunswick County, Virginia, RAWLINGS. It comes from several sources, among them a collection of newspaper articles published in recent years detailing the names of some RAWLINGS Confederate War Veterans from there. It looks like it is going to take several issues to cover them all. These families are supposed to descend from a WILLIAM RAWLINGS who came to America in the late 1600's to settle in that southeastern corner of Virginia. In the September and December 1990 issues of the newsletter there was mention of a GREGORY RAWLINGS who had land grants in what is now Brunswick Co., Virginia. Maybe if any of you has other information on the GREGORY-JOHN-WILLIAM lines of Surry, Sussex, Lunenburg and Brunswick Co VA, you'll share it with us.

Enjoy, and keep the information coming.
