R/RFHA Newsletter, December 1993                       p. 46

For those of you interested in researching the mysterious PEMBERTON ROLLINS/RAWLINS who turned up in Boonesborough with Daniel Boone and the other members of the Transylvania Company, and who was killed outside that fort in 1790 by raiding indians, along with Col .Richard Callaway .

I have recently heard of a. fine book, researched on Thomas Maxwell of Virginia, and his descendents. The book came out in 1956. In it is noted that Thomas Maxwell married a Mary Pemberton in 1761 in Virginia, and she was "thought to be of the King William Co., Virginia Pembertons".

Thomas Maxwell was from Middlesex Co., VA, b. 1742. He had a brother John, b.1740, who was granted land in North Carolina, and was a probably neighbor of the RAWLINS who lived then in Johnston County, NC. Johnston Co. was not formed until 1746, before that being part of Craven Co. A RAWLINGS was found in Craven Co. on the tax list in 1743. This name was also found in Bladen, Onslow Gates and Northampton Cos. in N.C. 1.742-1781.

Might be helpful to look into this info.

Those of you researching in West Virginia, we have received notice of a gentleman there who has a library of source material for that area - maps, newspapers, marriage records, census' from 1810 - 1910. He also has some resource material for a few SE Ohio counties. Write him for a list

Wes Cochran 2515 10th. Ave. Parkersburg, WV

Received several copies of the 1790 census from subscribers upon my request for same and continue to be surprised at the fact that so many of the R's we have other records to prove their existence, don't turn un in the censuses. (Should that be censii?) For example they show: Pennsylvania

1790 - JOSEPH RAWLINS, Bucks Co.

- JAMES ROLLINS, York Co.

1810 - NATHAN RAWLINS, Montgomery

- RUTH RAWLINS, Montgomery Co.

- JOHN RAWLINS, Montgomery Co

1820 - DANIEL ROLLIN, Greene Co.

- JAMES ROLLINGS, Bedford Co.

Where are the Washington & Westmoreland Co. R's - DANIEL, AARON, MICHAEL, NATHAN, HENRY, JAMES, ANTHONY?
