Dear Cousins All....
Since this is probably the last page you read in the Newsletter since it is the most boring, you have Probably already seen that the form of this issue is different. I hope the print is not too small for any of you. If it is, please let me know and we can go back to the other size.
I took this step to be able to send you more information with each issue, and with this smaller print you receive the equivalent of 4 to 5 more pages per issue. The only other alternative to adding 4 more pages would be to raise the cost of the newsletter to $8.00 per year to cover cost of copying plus another 23¢ stamp. Let me have your thoughts on this and any other matter with regard to the newsletter.
I might ask if any of the subscribers have information on R's from states such as South Carolina, Delaware, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Texas, Idaho, Montana, Michigan, Missouri or anywhere else ... states we don't hear much from and yet know had many R's as residents during the 1800's...please fill us in. Many of the requests we receive only go back three or four generations, after our ancestors have left Kentucky or Maryland or Virginia or New England for points west. We'd like to help them make the connection between the very early settlers and the much later ones who are their grandparents or parents. It is these connecting generations which sometimes prove to be the most difficult to locate.
There are 3 excellent books some of you might like to purchase which deal with military records, and how to access them. All three are compiled by George K. Schweitzer, 407 Regent Court, Knoxville, TN 37923. They are CIVIL WAR GENEALOGY, WAR OF 1812 GENEALOGY and REVOLUTIONARY WAR GENEALOGY. They include local and national sources, Military Unit Histories, Sites and Museums, Histories of the respective wars, and other valuable information. The cost is low, around $10 each, when I purchased mine, but it would be best to write to Mr. Schweitzer to inquire.
