More information on the GEORGE HENRY RAWLINGS who founded the RAWLINGS SPORTING GOODS COMPANY of St. Louis, Missouri. Wilma has done a tremendous job in seeking out descendants from whom she gathered much data. Some is as follows:

Father: GEORGE SHEPARD RAWLINGS, b. 1823, Wales, Great Britain; d. Jan.27, 1872, St. Louis, MD. Buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 22, Lot 1041.

Wife: SARAH PAVEY, b. Nov. 27, 1827, London, England; d. Sept.16, 1924, St. Louis, MO. Buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504.

Children: 1. SARAH LOUISE, b. Feb. 24, 1853, London England; d. March 6, 1942, St. Louis. m. (1) Charles Guthrie; (2) Charles Stone Alderman; (3) Geo. W. Dudley

Children: Edna G. Guthrie who m. Samuel Elleard Heffern

Myrtle A. Alderman, who-married George Neuhoff.

2. GEORGE HENRY, b. Sept. 30, 1855, St. Louis, MO.; d. Jan.18, 1909, St. Louis. buried Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504 m. Ella Blanche Mann, Oct. 18, 1877, St. Louis.

ALICE BLANCHE, m. Newton J. Fitzhugh, Nov. 6, 1900

3. EDWARD WILLIAM, b. April 7, 1858, St. Louis; d. March 20, 1909, St. Louis. buried Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504 Married Mary B.____. After EDWARD's death, Mary married twice more.

4. ALFRED H., b. Aug. 19, 1859, St. Louis; d. May 23, 1918, St. Louis buried Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504 m. Bessie L. ____. Had 1 child, LEX H. RAWLINGS.

5. EMMA KATE, b. Nov.3, 1862, England; d. July 29, 1944, St. Louis. Buried Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504 Married Wm. DeCourcy, and had 2 children, neither of whom married.

6. ANNA KATHERINE, b. Aug. 12, 1868, St. Louis; d. Aug. 25, 1935, St. Louis. buried Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Block 311, Lot 4504 Married Tecumseh Teuscher, had 2 children.

7. ARTHUR D., b. ___ ;d. ___ buried

Wilma believes she may have found another son of EMMA KATE's. He was 21 when he died but was not buried in the family plot. She has written for the death certificate.

In the St. Louis Business Directory, 1860:

GEORGE SHEPARD RAWLINGS is found with Wilson, RAWLINGS & Company, a firm listed as U.S. Land Agents. GEORGE died in 1872 of meningitis.

When the children of GEORGE SHEPARD and SARAH (Pavey) RAWLINGS married, they lived in the area called Forest Park. The World's Fair of 1904 was held in Forest Park in St. Louis. As of this date Wilma has located 23 living descendants of GEORGE SHEPARD and SARAH RAWLINGS. They are the Hefferns and Neuhoffs from the marriage of SARAH LOUISE RAWLINGS, oldest daughter of GEORGE and SARAH. Samuel E. Heffern and George Neuhoff operated the Heffern-Neuhoff Jewelers for over 50 years in downtown St. Louis. Samuel died in 1951 and George died about 1960.
