The Rawlin(g)s Rollin(g)s Family History Association

ISSN #1055-1891

Volume 5, No. 2                                             June 92

Greetings Cousins:

I don't know what it's like where you are but summer has come to California, and since we've had 5 years of drought and this summer doesn't look any different we Golden Staters aren't looking forward to the next four months.

I am a little saddened by the fact that not everyone has rejoined for 1992. Our membership is now only 112 and 8 of those are brand new subscribers. I've been kept busy sending out reams of material to many concerning their antecedents, in some cases catching up on delayed correspondence I am ashamed to say. By the end of the month I should have all past requests taken care of.

For those of you descending from MOSES RAWLINGS KBI (Killed By Indians) I have the copies of the photos of Blanquette/Blanket Creek and will send them off to whomever is interested. For those of you who don't know the significance of that, Blanquette Creek in oldtime Bourbon County, Kentucky, is where MOSES and his family settled in October of 1786, and where he and a brother were killed by indians in the spring of the following year.

We also now have a copy of the publication" RAWLINGS Since the Civil War; which contains 1,694 birth & death records of RAWLINGS who have lived and died in America after Social Security was established in the mid 1930's. You are most likely to find persons on this list who were born after 1870 and who lived long enough to collect SS, dying after 1962. It is up-to-date to September of 1990. Send an SASE and the name(s) of your relative(s). The info I'll send back will be as follows:

JOHN RAWLINGS, born Florida 05/28/1922; died Arkansas 02/00/1984 SS#266-77-4497

Remember, if a person was self-employed he or she might not be on the list. My husband has found several uncles and cousins, but his father is not included since he was a self-employed pharmacist. The self-employed were not included in the Social Security System until the 1950's, and he died in 1948. I am also going to inquire if there is a separate publication for RAWLINS, and one or two publications for ROLLINGS and ROLLINS, and will purchase them if there are.

Keep the cares and letters coming!!!

Katherine
