R/RFHA Newsletter, December 1992                            P. 52

From Lt. 2 Edward Wiessing, 105-B Lawton, Ft. Huachaca, AZ 85613

JAMES A. RAWLINGS, MD; born ? ; died Aug. 17, 1898, Cumberland Co., Illinois married Anna Feltner. Children were MAHALIA, m. (1) David C. Greeson, Jan. 7, 1872, and m. (2) a Mr. Mullins. Another child was MARION (1853-1929) who married Mary E1izabeth Hawley in 1879; GEORGE (1858-1930) was married once to whom we do not know, divorced at time of death; EMMA, LILLIE and DAISY. Anyone know anything of this family?

In addition, let it be noted that a JOHN D. RAWLINGS who died Jan. 8, 1920, in Cumberland County, also married a Feltner, Mary.

JOHN and JAMES A. are both buried in Greenup Cemetery, Greenup, Cumberland Co., Ill. Do you think they are brothers? And what of the BENJAMIN S. RAWLINGS who was killed at Vicksburg during the Civil War? He and JOHN D. were in the same regiment in that war.

Also, Ed would like to know who was the NATHAN A. RAWLINGS, born Marion Co., Indiana, ca 1834? He was 28 when he enlisted in the Civil War in 1862, the 40th Regiment Iowa volunteers. Had blue eyes, black hair, was 6'1". He enlisted at Newton, Iowa.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Subscribers will notice that Sgt. Wiessing is now 2nd Lieut. Wiessing, and that his address is changed. Please note. Congratulations, Ed.

The Editor apologizes to Beverly Allan and Margaret Smith, the researchers and compilers of the excellent genealogical history of the STEPHEN RAWLINGS (1721-1783) for the errors in the September 1992 Newsletter, P.57. Everyone correct their copies.

The STEPHEN RAWLINGS, grandfather of the unfortunate ELIZABETH (RAWLINGS) HART, was the son not the grandson of AARON RAWLINGS (ca 1667-ca 1741) of Maryland and his wife Susanna Jones, not Beard. This couple had 7 children, among them the aforementioned STEPHEN. (Please cross out "father of the STEPHEN of this story". The correct lineage is AARON & Susannah (Jones) RAWLINGS .... to STEPHEN & Elizabeth (Tyler) RAWLINGS ...to EDWARD & Rebecca (Van Meter) RAWLINGS ...to ELIZABETH RAWLINGS & Miles Hart.

Further down the page, please correct the following: In the sentence beginning "The Methodist Church was established in his home. STEPHEN was a gentleman Justice," then delete the rest of that sentence, writing in instead “STEPHEN died after 2 Nov. 1830 and probably before 17 January 1831, in Hardin Co., Kentucky. (He did not go to Marengo, Indiana.)

Concerning his marriages, he was married 3 times, not twice. His first two marriages ware to the sisters Roshaanah & Abigail Stephenson. His third was Priscilla, surname unknown. He bad 10 children, not 8, with a possible 11th, a girl, born ca 1794-1800.

It is to be noted that the Editor reprinted information from a Mrs. Kateri, which was not correct. This was material the Editor had received many years ago and should have discarded since other information received has proven it to be inaccurate. My apologies to you all.
