R/RFHA Newsletter, December 1992 P.50
SOME CHANGES, CORRECTIONS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND
THIS-&-THAT
First off, Col. GEORGE RAWLINGS, one of our subscribers, and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. You've only got another 50 to go, GEORGE, before you break a record.
The Archivist from the Winchester-Frederic County (Virginia) Historical Society has informed us that a detailed map displaying the historical names, roads, cemeteries, etc. is now available. It's drawn in four colors, is illustrated, and current roads are noted so researchers can visit the sites. The cost is $5.00, plus $1.00 postage. Checks should be made payable to Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, and maps should be ordered from the Archives, Handley Library, Box 58, Winchester, VA 22604. Proceeds from these sales go to providing conservation treatment for material in the Archives. For those of you with ancestors in this area, this should be a great deal.
There's a book out entitled "Invasion of Privacy: The Cross Creek Trial of Marjorie Kinnan RAWLINGS" by Patricia Nassif Acton, published by University of Florida Press. $18 hardcover, $10 paperback. The book concerns the invasion of privacy lawsuit brought against RAWLINGS by her friend and neighbor, Zelma Cason, who had been pictured in RAWLINGS' book "Cross Creek" as ‘an ageless spinster resembling an angry and efficient canary’. Miss Cason sued for $100,000 but received only $1 in a decision by the Florida Supreme Court, plus court costs. This book is considered as one of the best books written about RAWLINGS’ life and writing.
Ed.Note: Plea- change the page numbers in your September 1992 issue, from 1-16 ... to 33-48. I temporarily forgot I had instituted a new system. Sorry. I only point this out since the index coming out in March will indicate pp 33-48.

Judi RAWLINGS of Cynthia, Harrison Co., Ky...sent photographs and the negatives of brick naming MOSES RAWLINGS (1745-1787) as a Pioneer, honored in a brick walkway in the Pendleton Co. Courthouse Square, a part of the Kentucky Bi-Centennial celebrations. Our own WILMA RAWLINGS purchased this brick & had it installed in the walkway.
