Dear Cousins All:

As you will note by the financial report we have an additional six members, 2 re-subscribers and 4 new ones. And you keep sending in ream of information, which is marvelous! I hope that means many Of you have made progress in your research. That's what we are here for. Our only problem is that there are too many R's out there, and they all had too many children, and therefore we've too many leads to follow. We'd love to hear your success stories.

A bit of sad news - Allen Potter, long-time subscriber, has passed away. He sent information to us from time-to-time, and we will miss corresponding with him. Our condolences to his family.

I hope you will get a kick out of the bit of Hallowe'en nonsense we've included in this issue (see P.16). When I came across it a few months ago while perusing the 1874 edition of JOHN R. ROLLINS book, I marked it for use in this month's edition. Amazing how closely the tale follows that of the Legend of sleepy Hollow.

You will note in the financial report under copying costs that the amount seems to be more than customary. The reason is that often when new subscribers sign up they wish to have all the back issues, so I have to keep having them printed. They pay $7.50 per each year of back issues.

An interesting idea came to your Editor while gardening recently. A neighbor's boy came up to me to show me his new RAWLINGS baseball glove for Little League. I remembered when my three sons all had RAWLINGS gloves and RAWLINGS sweatshirts as boys, feeling rather superior to those who had the same but not the surname. That prompts me to ask if any of you know who began the RAWLINGS Sporting Goods Company?, and if you do, would you share it with us? If no one does by the end of September I'll contact the Public Relations Department of RAWLINGS Sporting Goods and see what they have to say.

Another idea was suggested by a subscriber, Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer. Would any of you who are computer literate and have the time (I don't qualify in both instances) would you be willing to take on the task of entering all the names and pertinent data into a genealogical data base? It would be a godsend! Perhaps one person could do one know your opinion on year's the Newsletter. Think about it and let me know your opinion on such an idea.
