The Rawlin(g)s Rollin(g)s
Family History Association
Volume 4 No.1 March 1991
Dear Cousins:
It's a
new year and the R/RFHA is still going strong, I'm pleased to report 94 members
have renewed, and we have had 8 new members since the December issue was
released. Subscribers from 39 of the 50 states now receive the newsletter, plus
8 genealogical or historical organizations. The only states not represented are
Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, North
and South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming. Perhaps some of you have relatives in
those states who might like to join with us. And we have 2 families from
Ontario, Canada, who have joined with us due to our sending to the Ontario
Genealogical Society a copy of our newsletter. We've also notified the Dominion
Loyalist's Society of our existence since there were quite a few RAWLIN(G)S and
ROLLIN(G)S who chose that route during the Revolutionary War. A cautionary note
among all the good news, however. This will be the last issue sent to
subscribers who have not renewed for 1991. I sincerely regret taking that
action, but what with the cost of postage these days, and the rise in copying
costs, it cannot be helped.
An
interesting bit of information surfaced in a new family name quarterly
"Tracing Turner", which we receive on behalf of my husband's mother's
line. E. Elden David has taken on the task of obtaining as much information as
possible about the some 4,000-plus soldiers who ware engaged by the U.S.
government after the Civil War in forcing the various tribes of Native
Americans back onto their reservations. Mr. Davis had written to the editor of "Tracing
Turner" to inform her of soldiers of that surname he had discovered in the
military rosters. He may be in the process of writing a book, because he was
asking her readers for additional information on these men so as to fill out a
biography of each one. I will write him to inquire if RAWLIN(G)S or ROLLIN(G)S
(and other spellings) have turned up in those lists, and will report on it in
the June issue.
You will
note that the Newsletter is down to 12 pages this issue due to the inclusion of
the 1990 index.
As the
radio and television M.C.'s say... "Keep your cards and letters
coming." The Newsletter couldn't exist without them. I
