The Rawlin(g)s Rollin(g)s Family History Association

Volume 4 No.2  June 1991

Dear Cousins all:

The response to the subscription renewal has been good with 110 returning to the fold, and 11 new members. The renewals aren't as numerous as I would hope and I trust their failure to do so is caused by forgetfulness and not by any unhappiness with the newsletter.

As I mentioned in the January issue I would contact Mr. Eldon Davis concerning the possibility there were soldiers surnamed RAWLIN(G)S or ROLLIN(G)S who served in the wars against the indians pro-Civil War in our nation's West. Perhaps we will be fortunate and not have any of our "cousins" engaging in that activity other than the one who died at the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. (see P.10) To this date I have not received an answer to my inquiry. Will let you know next time.

Some news of interest to those of you who require information from the National Archives: as of March 1st, a new fee schedule has been put into effect, as follows: Electrostatic copies made for a researcher by a staff member have been reduced from 35¢ each to 25¢ each.

Increases include: reproduction & handling of federal census records, $6.00 Reproduction and handling of specific types of records such as military service and passenger arrival lists, raised to $10.00

Minimum charge for all n-ail orders, raised to $6.00.

B&W sxs slides, increased to $3.50 each; B&W 8x10 prints, increased to $6.25 each. Microfilm-to-paper self-service reproductions up to 18x24, increased to 90¢ each.

These increases apply to all branch offices, as well as the one in Washington, DC.

Enjoy the newsletter...and have a great summer!
