CORRECTIONS
From
Barbara Browder, 4400 Cheyenne Rd. Richmond, VA 23235
Thanx to
Barbara for clarifying some information published in the September 1990 issue
of the Newsletter P.15, First Paragraph. The information in this paragraph was
based on what was told the Editor during research she was attempting back in
1982 on the Surry County RAA-LINGS. The information that there were no files to
be had in Surry County came from the County Clerk at the time. Barbara, who has
conducted much research in this general area, informs us of the following:
"James
City County was one of the eight shires established in 1634. Most of the
records of James City County prior to 1865 were destroyed during the Civil War.
Surry
County was formed from James City County in 1652. Records for Surry County from
1652 are generally complete. These records are available on microfilm from the
Virginia State Archives on inter-library loan."
From new
member Edith Rawlings, 5055 Griffin Creek Rd., Medford, OR 97501
Her
daughter, while spending a few years in the Annapolis, MD, area, found an
historical marker on Maryland Route 2 at. Howard, MD, which read:
"RAWLINGS
TAVERN - JONATHON RAWLINGS given a license to keep an 'Ordinary' (Tavern) 1771.
George Washington dined here Sept. 26, 1773, on his way to the Annapolis
Races."
Edith's
husband, Dewey, descends from LLOYD RAWLINGS (1803-1883) born in Ohio &
died in Illinois, through his second youngest son JOSEPH.
