DEED - Nov. 2, 1686 - Miles 'Gibson, for 9,000 pounds of tobacco, conveying to JOHN RAWLINGS planter, 150 acres, being half of tract "Collets Neglect" at Elk Neck Creek in Gunpowder River, said tract formerly granted to Geo. Holland and later being the tilling plantation of Michael Judd. Witnesses: Mark Richardson & Miles Gibson. John Hall, subsheriff, recv'd. 6 shillings from RAWLINGS for alienation. (?)

From the "Dictionary of Landed Gantry" P. 273

"The name of RAWLINGS occurred in Wilton and Warminster, Wiltshire, during the reigns of Henry VIII, Mary and Elizabeth I. At present the neighborhood of Calve or Colne is the home of the name, but as RAWLENCE it still occurs in Wilton."
