Can any
member prove that MOSES RAWLINGS (1740-1787), actually lived at Harper's Ferry,
Virginia before emigrating to Kentucky in the fall of 1786? Although the
records there have been searched diligently by several members, no record of
him or his family exists, except that information passed down through and by
his children and grandchildren. MOSES married Mary Cornwell, daughter of ? ,
in Loudoun County, Virginia, in 1760. MOSES and Mary had 7 sons and 2 or 3
daughters. He was brother to NATHAN and ASAHEL RAWLINGS. The family was rumored
to be Quakers. It would be appreciated if we could clear up this and other
mysteries about this family since about 20 of our members descend from one or
the other of the brothers. MOSES was killed by Indians outside his home, along
with a brother or son. Six of his sons emigrated to Ohio in the early 1800's,
and at least one of his daughters.
